At the heart of the novel is Dave, Michael's older brother, a gentle giant who spent his childhood overcoming bullying and self-doubt to become the most steady, loving presence in Michael's life. Throughout the novel, Williams weaves in themes of forgiveness, resilience, and faith as Michael navigates his own mistakes, setbacks, and moments of doubt, always with his brother's example to guide him.
The novel is dedicated to Williams's real-life brother, Dave, and draws on the author's own experience of growing up alongside a sibling whose quiet strength shaped the course of his life.
