Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik advanced to the Denmark Open semi-finals by beating Japan’s Hiroki Okamura and Kyohei Yamashita 21-16, 21-18. The world No. 4 pair have now reached six semi-finals this season.

Their next opponents are South Korea’s top-ranked Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae, who lead their head-to-head record 3-2. Aaron and Wooi Yik won the latest meeting between the pairs, at the World Championships semi-finals in August.

Against the world No. 41 Japanese pair, Wooi Yik said limiting counterattacking opportunities had been important, particularly in the opening game. He said the Malaysians kept the contest tight despite playing some loose shots.

Aaron said the focus was on carrying out their game plan against opponents they had not faced before. The Denmark Open also holds significance for the Malaysians: they claimed their first World Tour title there in 2023.

The Korean pair beat Aaron and Wooi Yik in the Malaysia Open and All England finals this year. The Malaysians’ other victory over them came in last year’s Singapore Open final. Another win would bring the rivalry to three victories each.
