Alex Eala to face Talia Gibson for Pan Pacific Open quarterfinal spot
The Filipina is seeking her first quarterfinal appearance of the Asian swing after beating Mika Stojsavljevic in her opening match.

Philippine tennis player Alexandra “Alex” Eala will meet Australia’s Talia Gibson, ranked world No. 38, in a second-round contest at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo. A victory would put Eala into her first quarterfinal of this year’s Asian swing.
Eala advanced by defeating Britain’s Mika Stojsavljevic 6-1, 6-2. Gibson booked her place with a 6-0, 7-5 victory against fellow Australian Daria Kasatkina in the opening round.
Awaiting the winner in the quarterfinals will be either Diana Shnaider, the third seed, or Aliaksandra Sasnovich, who is ranked world No. 112.
Eala’s other Asian swing results include last-16 appearances in Singapore and Ningbo, alongside an opening-round loss in Wuhan. Her season has also included titles at the DC Open and Birmingham Open, plus semifinal appearances at the Berlin Tennis Open and ASB Classic.
At the Grand Slams, Eala reached Wimbledon’s last 16 and the US Open’s round of 32. She exited both the Australian Open and French Open in the round of 128.
