Indonesia's Alwi Farhan advanced to the second round of the French Open 2026 with a three-game victory over Taiwan's Lin Chun Yi. He was among eight Indonesian representatives to reach the last 16 at the Super 750 tournament.

Alwi took the opening game 21-16 before Lin, the All England 2026 champion, levelled the match by winning the second 21-13. Alwi then won the deciding game.

In a written statement from PBSI, the 21-year-old from Surakarta said he had felt intense pressure during the closing points. He described Lin's powerful smashes as difficult to counter and said his opponent had played very well.

Alwi said he needed to limit Lin's opportunities to attack overhead and be prepared to expend more energy. He acknowledged some luck in the result but also credited his continued effort regardless of the circumstances.

His next opponent is Hong Kong's Angus Ng Ka Long on 22 October. Alwi has won two of their four previous meetings. Indonesia's other remaining men's singles player, Moh Zaki Ubaidillah, will face Koki Watanabe in the second round.
