European clubs congratulate Indonesia on FIFA ASEAN Cup victory
Indonesia beat Thailand 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw following extra time, with European clubs recognising their players’ contributions.

Indonesia’s FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 triumph drew congratulations from European clubs whose players represented the national team. Indonesia secured the trophy against Thailand, winning the penalty shoot-out 4-2 after the teams finished extra time level at 2-2.
Rayo Vallecano highlighted goalkeeper Emil Audero’s contribution in an Instagram post. The Spanish club said his save from Thailand’s final penalty secured the title for Indonesia.
Borussia Monchengladbach congratulated Kevin Diks, who captained Indonesia during the tournament, along with the national side. Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam also sent congratulations to its player Maarten Paes and Indonesia.
Go Ahead Eagles celebrated Dean James’s role in the victory, saying he scored from a free kick and converted his attempt in the shoot-out. The Dutch club noted that Indonesia’s previous international trophy had come in 1991.
French club OSC Lille, where Calvin Verdonk plays, marked the achievement with two social media posts. One featured a video and the other photographs of Verdonk celebrating after the title win.
