Hubner unsure of Indonesia's final place after 9-2 win
Late goals from Kevin Diks and Mitchell Baker sent Indonesia into the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 final ahead of Group A rivals Malaysia.

Indonesia defender Justin Hubner said he initially did not know whether his team had reached the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 final after beating Bangladesh 9-2 at Jakarta's Gelora Bung Karno stadium on 1 October. Confirmation of Malaysia's 6-0 victory over Singapore settled the uncertainty.
Indonesia and Malaysia were competing for the Group A top spot and a place in the final, with their matches taking place simultaneously. At half-time, Indonesia led Bangladesh 6-1 while Malaysia held a 2-0 advantage.
Malaysia moved ahead in the qualification race on goal difference as Indonesia struggled to score again after the break. With Malaysia winning 6-0 and Indonesia leading 7-2, Indonesia needed two more goals. Kevin Diks and Mitchell Baker scored late to secure the required margin.
Hubner said seeing Malaysia's players celebrate after their match made him wonder whether they had qualified instead. Some Indonesian players remained anxious after the final whistle, although others were already celebrating. Hubner also contributed a goal, heading in Calvin Verdonk's corner in the 45+1 minute to put Indonesia 6-1 ahead.
