Indonesia collected five gold medals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, beating the Youth and Sports Ministry’s target of four, according to Chef de Mission Todotua Pasaribu. Its overall haul of 39 medals also included 11 silvers and 23 bronzes.

The team finished 16th in the standings. At the 2022 Hangzhou Games, Indonesia placed 12th after earning seven golds, 11 silvers and 18 bronzes.

Pasaribu said the results deserved recognition because some events that had brought Indonesia gold in Hangzhou were absent from the Aichi-Nagoya programme. These included the mixed and men’s 10-metre running target competitions, which had yielded two golds, and the men’s 1,000-metre dragon boat race.

Individual achievements included weightlifter Rahmat Erwin’s world-record total of 366 kilograms in the 75-kilogram category. Desak Made established an Asian record of 6.062 seconds in women’s speed climbing.

Indonesia also beat China for the men’s badminton team title, ending a 28-year wait for another Asian Games gold. Nurisa Dian Ashrifa became Indonesia’s first Asian Games gold medallist in archery.

Pasaribu credited teqball, padel, mixed martial arts and esports, which he described as making their Asian Games debuts, with contributing silver and bronze medals. He said the CdM team’s work would be reviewed to help evaluate national sports development, with findings submitted to the National Olympic Committee and the ministry.
