Indonesia launches women's league with World Cup ambitions
PSSI and participating clubs have committed to running the competition for five years, with an evaluation to follow.

Indonesia's 2026/2027 women's football league opened at Jakarta's Stadion Madya on 18 October, with PSSI chairman Erick Thohir saying he hoped the competition would help the national team eventually qualify for the World Cup.
Erick said the league was bringing previously unmonitored players to attention and giving more footballers an opportunity to contribute to the national side. He outlined ambitions for Indonesia to compete in Southeast Asia, potentially win a regional title and reach the World Cup.
With the competition returning after seven years, Erick said PSSI wanted to establish a firm foundation before expanding. He said the federation and all participating clubs had committed to keeping the league running for five years, until 2031, before evaluating it.
He also stressed the need to ensure clubs could operate properly and avoid problems that might force them to withdraw during the competition, saying this explained PSSI's cautious approach.
Six teams are taking part: Garudayaksa FC, Persita, Persikad, Dewa United Banten FC, Persija Jakarta and FC Bekasi City. The league is scheduled to run until 30 January 2027, with a regular phase followed by semi-finals, a third-place match and the final.
