Indonesia advanced to the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 final with a 9-2 victory over Bangladesh on 1 October, after Kevin Diks and Mitch Baker scored the two late goals needed for qualification. Malaysia's 6-0 win against Singapore was not enough to take it through.

The decisive Group A fixtures kicked off simultaneously. Indonesia played at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, while Malaysia faced Singapore at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung.

Indonesia led 6-1 at half-time and was still ahead 7-1 after 90 minutes, when Malaysia held a 5-0 advantage. The qualification picture changed when Farhaan Al Wahid scored for Bangladesh and Bergson da Silva took Malaysia's lead to 6-0, leaving Indonesia needing two more goals.

The finish attracted attention from several international outlets. Australia's SBS Sport highlighted on Instagram that Indonesia had scored twice in stoppage time to reach the final. Turkish outlet Zpor reported that the decisive goals came at 90+6 and 90+7.

Zpor and Bolavip also reported that Malaysia had celebrated believing it had qualified before Indonesia's result changed the outcome. TNT Sports Brasil focused on Indonesia achieving the seven-goal winning margin it needed.
