Malaysia's campaign at the Shanghai World Championships ended when Izzah Izzati Asri and Nur Alyssa Farid failed to progress from the women's keirin first-round repechage. The races took place at the Shanghai Velodrome on Chongming Island.

A third-place finish in her opening heat sent Izzah into the repechage, with only two riders qualifying directly for the quarter-finals. China's Yuan Liying, an Asian Games gold medallist, finished ahead of Russia's Alina Lysenko, followed by Izzah.

Izzah then finished sixth in a repechage heat won by New Zealand's Olympic champion Ellesse Andrews. Hetty van de Wouw, the previous year's individual sprint world champion, was second. Alyssa's opening race ended without her finishing, but she returned to place fifth in her repechage heat.

The title ultimately went to Lysenko, while silver was claimed by Germany's Sophie Lea Friedrich and bronze by Great Britain's Emma Finucane.

Malaysian riders have also contested the UCI World Cup Series, the Asian Championships in Tagaytay, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games during the year. The squad's next major competition is the Asian Championships, scheduled for Jan 31-Feb 6 at Nilai's National Velodrome.
