Singapore collected two boccia medals at the Asian Para Games on Oct 21, with Jovin Tan finishing second in the men’s BC1 individual competition and Jeralyn Tan securing bronze in the women’s corresponding event.

Jovin, ranked sixth in the world, was beaten 4-1 by Thailand’s Witsanu Huadpradit at Rainbow Hall in the Nagoya General Gymnasium. The Singaporean trailed 3-0 after two ends and took the third 1-0, but could not overcome the world No. 12 and two-time defending champion.

Jeralyn defeated Iran’s Neda Ghayebi 6-1 in the bronze-medal play-off. She had previously earned silver at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

The results brought Singapore’s boccia medal tally across five editions of the Games to three. Its first came in Jakarta in 2018, when Toh Sze Ning, Nurlasyiqah Mohd Taha and Faye Lim earned mixed BC3 pairs silver. Aloysius Gan’s place in the men’s BC3 individual final guarantees another medal of at least silver.

For Jovin, the result adds a second sport to his Asian Para Games medal record. The four-time Paralympian won the double-handed Hansa 303 sailing title alongside Yap Qian Yin at Incheon in 2014.

The 40-year-old, who has cerebral palsy, began playing boccia in 2022 to pursue a Paralympic medal after sailing left the programme following the 2016 edition. He subsequently won gold at the 2025 Canberra World Boccia Challenger and the 2026 Asean Para Games.
