Tovera and Oñate claim UAAP weekly honours after key victories
La Salle climbed to outright third in the men's competition, while UE's women ended a losing streak that had reached 31 games.

Joaquin Tovera of De La Salle University and University of the East guard Sy Oñate have won the Collegiate Press Corps' weekly UAAP awards after helping their teams secure victories in Season 89. Tovera's recognition covered October 28 to 31, 2026.
La Salle beat Ateneo 76-73 after overtime despite the continued absence of playmaker Jacob Cortez. Tovera, a rookie, scored 21 points over 32 minutes, alongside six assists, seven rebounds and one steal. A third successive win put the Green Archers alone in third place with a record of 6-4.
Oñate contributed 25 points as UE defeated La Salle 68-65 in the women's competition, ending a run of 31 defeats stretching over more than two years. She also registered two assists, one steal and one rebound. Coach Ian Valdez's side moved to 1-7, having last won on September 22, 2024, against the same opponents.
The other contenders for the men's honour were Jared Bahay of Ateneo, Kirby Mongcopa of Far Eastern University and Mo Diassana of National University. Oñate took the women's award ahead of Oma Onianwa and Brigette Santos of the University of Santo Tomas, Amayah Espanol of FEU and Ann Pingol of NU.
