Low Zi Yu and Genevie Lim secure World Juniors medal for Malaysia
The second seeds will face China’s Shi Si Chen and Xiang Yu Jin in the girls’ doubles semi-finals in Cairo.

Malaysia are assured of at least bronze at the World Junior Championships in Cairo after Low Zi Yu and Genevie Lim won their girls’ doubles quarter-final. The second-seeded pair defeated Hong Kong’s fifth seeds Au-Yeung Wing Chi and Chu Wing Chi 15-7, 15-7.
The result guarantees Zi Yu a medal in the discipline for the third successive edition. She earned silver with Dania Sofea Zaidi in 2024 and repeated that result with Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan last year.
Zi Yu and Genevie, who took bronze at the Asian Junior Championships earlier this year, will meet 15th seeds Shi Si Chen and Xiang Yu Jin of China for a final berth. They are Malaysia’s only remaining chance of reaching the finals.
Earlier, Zi Yu and Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal were eliminated from the mixed doubles in the last 16. Genevie’s mixed doubles campaign also ended, with her and Irfan M Shazmir losing their quarter-final to China’s Feng Yi Lang and Li Meng Han 15-8, 13-15, 16-14.
In boys’ doubles, second seeds Isyraf Hafizin Ibrahim and Ahmad Redzuan lost their quarter-final to Japan’s Mahiro Oku and Masato Yamashiro 7-15, 15-11, 15-10. Lim Boon Le also exited in the boys’ singles quarter-finals after a 15-8, 15-11 defeat by Indonesia’s Radithya Bayu Wardhana.
