Loy Ming Ying reaches Youth Olympics final to secure medal for Singapore
The 16-year-old will meet Taiwan’s Chen Min-hsin for a chance to win Singapore’s first Youth Olympic table tennis gold.

Singapore’s Loy Ming Ying secured at least silver in women’s singles table tennis at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, defeating Hong Kong’s Su Tsz Tung in their semi-final on Nov 5. The 10th seed won 4-2 (5-11, 11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9) at the Dakar Expo Center in Senegal.
Loy, 16, will play Taiwanese fifth seed Chen Min-hsin, 17, at 1.30am Singapore time on Nov 6. Chen holds a 3-0 record against Loy and reached the final by beating Japan’s top seed Miku Matsushima 4-0.
A win would give Singapore its first Youth Olympic gold in table tennis. Isabelle Li’s women’s singles silver at the 2010 Games in Singapore remains the country’s best result in the sport at the event.
The semi-final marked Loy’s first victory over second seed Su after three defeats in their earlier meetings. Loy lost the opening game, won the next two and was pulled level before taking the fifth and sixth games. Su saved four match points before Loy closed out the match.
Loy’s knockout run also included a 4-0 win against India’s eighth seed Syndrela Das and a 4-1 victory over France’s fourth seed Nina Guo. Her place on the podium guarantees Singapore at least two medals in Dakar, following Ng Zhe Nin’s gold in women’s taijiquan combined on Nov 3.
