Career-best scoring performances from JC Macalalag and Doy Dungo helped De La Salle University secure a 92-80 win over the University of Santo Tomas on October 25. The UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball game took place at Quezon City’s Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym.

La Salle won despite injuries keeping two players out: Jacob Cortez had a swollen knee, while Lebron Jhames Daep was sidelined with an ankle sprain. The Green Archers’ record improved to 5-4; the Growling Tigers slipped to 4-5.

Macalalag’s 28-point haul included six baskets from three-point range. He also recorded three assists and three rebounds. Dungo scored 24, collecting four assists and four rebounds, while Joaquin Tovera supplied 15 points.

With Mark Llemit and Amiel Acido attempting a UST comeback, a further Macalalag three-pointer put La Salle 88-79 ahead. Tovera subsequently converted free throws following a Collins Akowe foul, then scored a layup to close out the win.

Acido topped UST’s scoring with 20 points, alongside seven rebounds and three assists. Landyn Jumawan contributed 18 points and Llemit had 15, with nine assists and four rebounds. Ice Danting scored 12, while Akowe finished with 14 rebounds and 11 points.
