Macalalag claims weekly UAAP award as La Salle wins twice
The defending champions moved to 5-4, while Erinn McAlary earned the women’s honour after UST completed an unbeaten first round.

Two victories for De La Salle University, including a career-high scoring performance, brought JC Macalalag the Collegiate Press Corps UAAP Player of the Week citation for October 21 to 25. La Salle’s record reached 5-4 in the Season 89 men’s basketball competition.
Macalalag delivered 28 points against the University of Santo Tomas in a 92-80 victory. The result gave the defending champions wins in both of their opening second-round games.
Earlier, La Salle ended a run of two defeats by overcoming the University of the East 97-88 in overtime. Macalalag contributed 14 points, making 6-of-8 shots, after guard Jacob Cortez sustained an apparent knee injury during the second quarter.
The women’s citation went to UST’s Erinn McAlary, whose team completed the first round without a defeat. The second-year Filipino-Australian contributed nine points and seven rebounds against the Lady Archers, adding one block, two steals and three assists.
Against the University of the Philippines, McAlary registered 16 points alongside 10 rebounds. Other contenders for the women’s award were UST teammates Brigette Santos and Karylle Sierba, Victoria Pasilang of Far Eastern University and UP’s Camille Nolasco.
