Malaysia beats Indonesia 2-0 to reach Suhandinata Cup final

Malaysia will face the winner of China versus Thailand after ending Indonesia’s run in the junior world team championship in Cairo.

Malaysia advanced to the final of the 2026 Suhandinata Cup with a 2-0 victory over Indonesia at the Cairo Hall Complex indoor stadium in Egypt on 9 October. The defeat ended Indonesia’s campaign in the junior world team championship at the semi-final stage.

Indonesia initially moved ahead in the first game when Fardhan Rainanda Joe led Wei Jie Tiew 11-6. The women’s doubles pairing of Atresia Naufa Candani and Aurelia Syakira Putri then lost 17-22, before Jolin Angelia restored Indonesia’s advantage at 33-32.

Malaysia regained the lead as Indonesian mixed doubles players Moses Andar Simanjuntak and Reya Azzahra Yulianti lost 43-44. Faizal Pangestu and Anju Siahaan subsequently went down 49-55 in men’s doubles, leaving Indonesia one game behind.

In the second game, Fardhan lost 7-11 to Tiew, while Atresia partnered Halifia Usni Pratiwi in an 11-22 defeat. Jolin fell 28-33 against Carine Tee, and Moses and Reya lost 37-44. Faizal and Anju’s 42-55 defeat against Isyraf Hafizin and Ahmad Redzuan completed Malaysia’s win. Malaysia will meet either China or Thailand in the final.
