Mitkov's late goal gives Madura United victory over Persib
Angga Saputro kept Persib out before Dimitar Mitkov struck in the 89th minute to seal a 1-0 Super League win.
Madura United defeated Persib Bandung 1-0 in the Super League on 22 October at Stadion Gelora Madura in Pamekasan, with Dimitar Mitkov scoring the decisive goal in the 89th minute.
The breakthrough came from a counter-attack after Persib had repeatedly threatened. Mitkov collected a loose ball inside the penalty area and drove a low shot into the corner beyond Teja Pakualam. Persib pressed for an equaliser but could not break through before the final whistle.
Goalkeeper Angga Saputro had denied Persib twice late in the match. He stopped Sandy Walsh's close-range header in the 71st minute, then used his foot to block a low effort from Ullian Barros in the 86th.
Neither side scored in an opening half that featured chances at both ends. Adam Alis had a powerful shot held in the 11th minute, while Julio Cesar headed Thom Haye's corner over the bar in the 19th.
Hugo Gomes threatened for Madura before the interval, including with a left-footed effort from outside the penalty area that went off target. Both teams increased the pace after the break, but the match remained goalless until Mitkov's late finish.
