Nadia Lim lowered her Malaysian record in the women's 200m freestyle to 1:59.19 seconds at the National Short Course Swimming Championships in Bukit Jalil, finishing inside the B qualifying standard for the world short-course championships in Beijing.

Representing Kurenang Swimming Club, Nadia took 4.19 seconds off her previous national mark of 2:03.38. Her victory at the National Aquatics Centre also produced a meet record and put her 0.46 seconds below the 1:59.65 B standard. PADE swimmers Chong Yuan Yi and Yoong Jia Jia placed second and third in 2:06.91 and 2:08.56 respectively.

Nadia had set her sights on breaking two minutes after taking the women's 200m individual medley title in 2:17.53 earlier in the competition. She said her preparation since the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in August had included intensive training focused on the 200m distance.

She attributed the freestyle performance to quicker turns and improved control of her leg kick, having identified areas to address during the morning heats. Nadia hopes to reach the 1:58 range in Beijing. She is due to return to Dubai for training, with the SEA Age Group Championships scheduled before the world meet.
