Napolis takes Asian Games jiu-jitsu bronze with late points
The Filipina beat Mongolia’s Tsagaanbileg Altangerel after coming through repechage, while Annie Ramirez exited in the Round of 16.

Kaila Napolis earned an Asian Games bronze for the Philippines on October 2, 2026, beating Mongolia’s Tsagaanbileg Altangerel in the women’s -52 kilogram jiu-jitsu event. A bridge with 10 seconds left earned Napolis two points from the mat referee and decided the contest.
Neither competitor established a clear advantage in the opening minutes. Altangerel could not capitalise while Napolis was on her back, and the bout remained unresolved with 30 seconds left before the Filipina’s late move.
Napolis reached the medal bout through repechage after losing her quarterfinal to Mongolia’s Mongoljin Ganbaatar. She then overcame Singapore’s Rivas Sofia Anabel to secure her place against Altangerel.
Her medal followed a Round of 16 defeat for Asian Games gold medallist Annie Ramirez earlier that day. Thailand’s Nuchanat Singchalad beat Ramirez by advantage, receiving one with 45 seconds remaining while the pair were deadlocked and another as time ran down.
The Philippines’ medal tally stood at four golds, six silvers and 16 bronzes. Jeus Yape claimed taekwondo gold earlier in the day, while boxer Carlo Paalam added silver. Khy Progella and Sofiah Pagara also collected a beach volleyball bronze.
