NU beats Adamson 85-66 after fourth-quarter surge

PJ Palacielo scored 19 points as National University improved to 3-2 in UAAP Season 89. Adamson slipped to 2-2.

National University overcame an Adamson comeback to win 85-66 in UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on October 7. The Bulldogs regained control in the fourth quarter after their 21-point advantage had dwindled to six.

Palacielo finished with 19 points, eight assists, two rebounds and one steal. Paul Francisco contributed 17 points, while Mo Diassana recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

NU had moved ahead 41-20 following an and-one play from Palacielo. Adamson responded with defensive pressure and outside shooting, with consecutive baskets from Kenji Canete bringing the Falcons within 58-52. The Bulldogs then put together a 16-7 stretch, reaching 74-59 on a Tebol Garcia jumper.

After Ray Allen Torres scored for Adamson, Garcia and Francisco combined for five unanswered points. Matty Erolon later hit a three-pointer, but Diassana and Kenshin Padrones pushed NU’s lead to 84-64 with under two minutes left.

Reinhard Jumamoy and Garcia each scored 12 points for NU. Jumamoy also collected 10 rebounds, four assists and one steal; Garcia supplied three assists and two steals. Torres led Adamson with 14 points and two assists, followed by Erolon with 12 points. Monty Montebon and Precious Jonah scored 11 apiece, while Earl Medina added 10.
