Ongcoy loses Asian Para Games bronze after jury reverses disqualification
The revised result left the Philippines with four medals: two golds, one silver and one bronze.

Philippine runner Cyril Cloyd Ongcoy finished fourth in the 2026 Asian Para Games men’s 1500m T12/T13 final after a jury reinstated a disqualified competitor, overturning his initial bronze-medal placing.
The decision gave Uzbekistan’s Fakhriddin Khamraev gold with a time of 4:07.47. Jordan’s Nabeel Maqableh moved from gold to silver, while India’s Sharath Makanahalli took bronze. Khamraev’s disqualification had followed a protest by Maqableh alleging obstruction during the race.
Francis Diaz, the Philippine team’s chef de mission, said he had submitted a formal manifestation over the matter. In comments distributed by the Philippine Sports Commission media pool, he criticised the handling of the results, saying they should have been labelled unofficial while an appeal was pending.
Ongcoy said losing the medal hurt after his hopes had been raised, but he remained proud of his performance on his Asian Para Games debut. He said he had given his full effort against more experienced rivals and was still happy with how he had performed.
