Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto invited athletes from the 2026 Asian Games and Asian Para Games to Jakarta’s Presidential Palace on 29 October for a reception and bonus presentation, Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir said.

Erick said priority would go to medal winners from the competitions in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. He did not specify how many athletes had been invited or how much they would receive, but said the latest decision provided for higher bonuses than before.

The minister linked the awards to athletes’ welfare and future prospects. He pointed to savings and scholarships, as well as prospective pensions, while describing Prabowo’s support for Indonesian athletes.

Erick also said Indonesia’s medal haul across the two events had exceeded the targets set for its delegations. He gave no medal totals or target figures.

He said the government would keep pressing sports leaders and federations to fulfil their commitments. He added that it had supported short-, medium- and long-term national training programmes and would begin preparations for the 2028 Olympics.
