PSIM Yogyakarta sack Jean Paul van Gastel after winless start
Assistant coach Guntur Cahyo Utomo will take temporary charge while the club searches for a replacement, with PSIM 16th in the Super League.

PSIM Yogyakarta have dismissed head coach Jean Paul van Gastel following five matches without a victory in the 2026/2027 Super League. Club president director Yuliana Tasno announced the decision at Yogyakarta City Hall on 17 October 2026.
Assistant coach Guntur Cahyo Utomo has been appointed caretaker until a successor is found. Tasno said management had carefully considered the decision and that her responsibility was to safeguard the club’s future.
PSIM drew their opening fixture before losing four consecutive matches. That run has left the Yogyakarta side in 16th place with one point from their first five games.
Management apologised to supporters for the team’s performances. Tasno asked the Brajamusti and Maident supporter groups to back the decision, expressing hope that it would improve the dressing-room atmosphere and help produce better results on the pitch.
Van Gastel, a former NAC Breda coach, took charge of PSIM at the start of the 2025/2026 Super League season. The newly promoted club showed promise early in that campaign and finished 11th, but have been unable to maintain those performances this season.
