PSM Makassar are working to counter Persebaya Surabaya’s set-piece threat ahead of their Super League meeting on 22 October at Gelora BJ Habibie Stadium in Parepare, South Sulawesi, coach Darije Kalezic said.

PSM’s assessment of Persebaya’s last five matches identified both dead-ball situations and their ability to win duels as concerns. At least two of Persebaya’s six goals came from set pieces, with a corner leading to one of their goals in their most recent match against PSS.

Kalezic said his players had discussed the danger and practised ways to deal with it. He also stressed the need to avoid unnecessary fouls in dangerous areas and limit opportunities for Persebaya from free kicks and corners.

Speaking at a pre-match session on 21 October, Kalezic said PSM’s preparations had been positive following their first victory, against PSIS the previous week. He said coordination and the allocation of responsibilities within the team had improved.

PSM will be without defender Dusan Lagator following his red card. Kalezic questioned the decision, saying the contact with an opposing player did not warrant a dismissal. He said Lagator had been playing well and contributing consistently.
