Philippine weightlifter Rose Jean Ramos claimed bronze in the women’s 49kg snatch at the IWF World Championships in China, lifting 86kg at the Ningbo Olympic Center. The 20-year-old finished fifth overall with a total of 181kg.

North Korea’s Ri Song Gum took gold in each of the three medal categories, recording 92kg in the snatch and 119kg in the clean and jerk for a 211kg total. China’s Zhao Jinhong collected silver in each category, with lifts of 91kg and 116kg giving her a total of 207kg.

Ramos, a world youth champion and Asian Championship silver medallist, has financial backing from the Philippine Sports Commission. Her performance earned ranking points towards a possible place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where she hopes to pursue gold.

Elreen Ando is also pursuing Olympic qualification and is set to compete in the women’s 61kg division. Qualifying for Los Angeles would give her a third Olympic appearance. Other Filipino hopefuls include Ramos’ sister Rosegie in the 53kg category, Albert Ian delos Santos in the men’s 70kg and Kristel Macrohon in the women’s 69kg.
