Shaun Goh sets Singapore 10,000m record in Yokohama
The runner has broken seven national records in 2026 since becoming a full-time athlete in February.

Singapore’s Shaun Goh ran 30min 27.83sec at the 26th Nittaidai Challenge Games in Yokohama, Japan, on 7 November to claim the national men’s 10,000m record. The 29-year-old improved on Soh Rui Yong’s mark of 30:33.29, recorded at the same meeting on 29 November 2025.
Goh said he initially stayed with a group running faster than the pace needed for the record, but slowed when the leaders pulled away around 7km. With runners becoming separated, he had to pursue others alone. He covered the final kilometre in 3min 1sec, having calculated that he needed 3min 7sec to break the mark.
His other national records this year came in the half-marathon, road mile, road 5km, road 10km and track 2.4km. He lowered the road 10km record twice.
All seven record performances followed his move into full-time athletics in February under a two-year agreement with Betterment Sports. Previously an information security analyst, Goh said leaving full-time employment allowed him to enter more high-quality races and organise his training more effectively. He said winning races remained his goal.
Goh’s next competition is the Victorian Open & U20 5000m Championships in Australia on 19 November, as he pursues qualification for the 2027 SEA Games.
