Singapore’s medal tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games reached a national record of 11 on 24 October, with the 20-member contingent collecting six silvers and five bronzes. It was nevertheless the country’s first goldless campaign since the inaugural Games in 2010.

The last medal came from Aloysius Gan and Nurulasyiqah Mohammad Taha in boccia. Japan’s Sayaka Sekine and Kazuki Takahashi defeated them 4-2 in the mixed pairs BC3 final at Nagoya City General Gymnasium Rainbow Hall. The hosts won the opening three ends by scores of 1-0, 2-0 and 1-0; Singapore took two points from the closing end.

Gan and Nurulasyiqah reached the final by beating India, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong in pool matches, followed by Thailand in the semi-final. In September, they had become Singapore’s first World Boccia Championships gold medallists.

Team captain Nurulasyiqah said she was proud of their progress and the work behind it. The pair will take a break before training resumes, with Nurulasyiqah describing their world championship success as encouragement on the path towards LA28.

Swimmer Toh Wei Soong earned two silvers and three bronzes, while archer Nur Syahidah Alim and boccia player Jovin Tan each claimed silver. Games debutante Amelia Tan took bronze in para-cycling, as did Jeralyn Tan in boccia. Singapore’s 33-strong contingent at Hangzhou in 2023 earned three golds, three silvers and two bronzes.
