Singapore supporters voice anger after 6-0 defeat by Malaysia
The result was Singapore’s heaviest loss to Malaysia since 1978, but Malaysia still failed to qualify for the FIFA ASEAN Cup final.

Singapore football supporters criticised their national side after Malaysia won 6-0 at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung, Indonesia, on Oct. 1, 2026. The teams were playing their last Group A, Division 1 fixture at the FIFA ASEAN Cup.
The Football Association of Singapore’s official Facebook page received nearly 2,000 critical comments in the two hours following the final whistle. Hundreds of angry comments also appeared on KallangWave, a subreddit devoted to Singapore football, where supporters questioned the team’s motivation and expressed disbelief at its performance.
Despite the winning margin, Malaysia could not secure a place in the final. Indonesia beat Bangladesh 9-2, leaving both Indonesia and Malaysia with seven points and a +9 goal difference. Goals scored decided the group winner: Indonesia had 11, against Malaysia’s 9, and advanced to the final.
Singapore had not lost to Malaysia by such a margin since 1978. Their preceding five meetings had produced an even record for Singapore, with two victories, two defeats and one draw.
