Singapore lose 0-6 to Malaysia ahead of 2027 Asian Cup
Former Singapore international Noh Alam Shah called for a serious review of the team's approach before the tournament in Saudi Arabia.

Singapore ended their Group A campaign at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 with a 0-6 defeat by Malaysia at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung. It was their worst result since a defeat by the same score in 1978.
The loss came with the 2027 Asian Cup about three months away. That tournament will take place in Saudi Arabia from 7 January to 5 February 2027.
Noh Alam Shah, a former Singapore international, said the defeat was particularly painful because it came against Malaysia. Speaking to The Straits Times, he said he was more concerned by the team's loss of control after falling 0-2 behind than by the final score. He stressed the need to remain competitive and handle difficult situations.
Alam Shah urged Gavin Lee's side to assess their identity and whether their current approach offered the best chance at the Asian Cup. The former Persib Bandung, Arema Indonesia and PSS Sleman player’s criticism followed a contrasting performance at the AFF Cup 2026, where Singapore had one of the strongest defences. They reached the semi-finals and beat Thailand 2-1 in the second leg, but were eliminated.
