Pedro Taduran will make his fourth IBF minimumweight title defence when he faces Spain’s Brandon Romero at Kiva Auditorium in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on November 7. Taduran enters the bout as the Philippines’ only remaining world boxing champion.

At a November 6 press conference, Taduran said he was determined to retain the belt and would fight to the best of his ability. The 30-year-old from Libon, Albay, has 20 wins, including 14 knockouts, alongside 4 losses and 1 draw.

Taduran weighed 104.8 pounds, with Romero at 105 pounds. His preparations began at Elorde Sports Center in Sucat, Paranaque, before moving to Knuckleheads Boxing Gym in Las Vegas. Former junior bantamweight world champion Jerwin Ancajas and his longtime trainer and manager, Joven Jimenez, oversaw Taduran’s US training.

Taduran became the sole Filipino world champion after Melvin Jerusalem lost his WBC minimumweight title to Siyakholwa Kuse in South Africa on May 16.
