Thailand’s Marisa Tojai finished behind defending champion Miyu Yamashita at the Maybank Championship in Kuala Lumpur, with fellow Thai amateur Achiraya Sriwong taking sixth. The 17-year-old Marisa placed second at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

Achiraya closed with a seven-under-par 65 for a tournament total of 16-under 272. She played alongside major winners Celine Boutier and Yin Ruoning, both previous Maybank Championship champions. After completing her round, she joined the spectators to support Marisa, who was playing in the final group.

Marisa said the four days had given her valuable experience and identified mistakes she could learn from. She said her performance showed she could compete at that level, although she had dropped shots. Achiraya said the two had grown up together in Thailand’s national team, sharing rooms and practising together.

Achiraya then headed to Kuala Lumpur International Airport for an afternoon flight to LPGA Qualifying School. She credited former world No. 1 Atthaya “Jeeno” Thitikul as an inspiration, saying earlier generations of Thai professionals had shown younger players a route to follow.
