Three Filipino surfers get wildcards for Siargao WSL competition
John Mark Tokong will enter the Championship Tour field, while Jayuard Alciso and Mara Lopez will compete in the trials.

The Philippines has received three wildcard places for the World Surf League (WSL) competition at Cloud 9 in Siargao, scheduled for October 31 to November 10, 2026. PSC has allocated ₱25 million for the event, which joins the 2026 Championship Tour (CT).
John Mark (Marama) Tokong, who has won the Siargao International Surfing Cup four times, will compete in the CT event. The field comprises 24 men and 16 women.
The other Philippine wildcards, Jayuard Alciso and Mara Lopez, will contest the Philippines Pro CT trials. Alciso earned bronze at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, while teenager Lopez won the women’s open title at the 2026 Mayor Jaime Rusillon Memorial Surfing Cup.
Brazil’s Yago Dora, ranked No. 1 in the world, and Italy’s No. 2 Leonardo Fioravanti are among the surfers expected to take part. Fioravanti, a two-time Olympian, expressed enthusiasm about competing at Cloud 9 after watching footage of its waves.
A separate WSL World Longboard Tour event is also scheduled for La Union in January.
