Work on a proposed football stadium for 20,000 spectators in Tasi-Tolu, Dili, is expected to start in 2027, according to Football Federation of Timor-Leste (FFTL) president Nilton Telmo Gusmão. He said the schedule remained dependent on land arrangements and other preparations.

Gusmão said the feasibility study was complete and negotiations for the site were advancing, although securing the land remained essential before construction could proceed. He thanked residents in the proposed development area for their willingness to leave the site.

Preparations were under way, with financing expected from FIFA alongside additional support from the Timor-Leste Government, he said. The venue is intended to meet international standards, support player development and accommodate regional and international tournaments.

Plans also envisage features to make the stadium more accessible to people with disabilities. Gusmão said the federation welcomed suggestions from stakeholders and football supporters about the design and facilities.

The Council of Ministers approved the federation’s proposal for the stadium and an international-standard indoor futsal court on June 4, 2025. That decision followed a presentation by FFTL officials at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão.
