Cambodian para-athlete Van Vun claimed bronze at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Nagoya, Japan, becoming his country’s first medallist in the competition. He completed the men’s T54 wheelchair 100-metre final in 14.10 seconds.

Van Vun reached the medal race after finishing first in Heat 2 of qualifying, recording 14.31 seconds. His bronze ended Cambodia’s wait for a medal since its para-sports delegation started taking part in the Games in 2010.

Yi Veasna, secretary-general of the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia, praised Van Vun in a social media post. He described the athlete as a hero and said the achievement brought honour to people with disabilities and the country.

The committee’s vice-president, Sam Heng Boros, led Cambodia’s delegation and also welcomed the result, attributing it to Cambodian athletes’ perseverance and hard work.

Cambodia sent 17 athletes to the fifth edition of the Games, which drew more than 3,000 competitors from across Asia.
