Vietnam secured second place in Group B with six points by beating Pakistan 4-2 at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 in Jakarta on 2 October. Kim Sang Sik’s team will next play Malaysia, the Group A runners-up, for third place at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium on 5 October.

Pakistan held a 1-0 half-time advantage despite Vietnam controlling possession in the opening stages. In the 31st minute, centre-back Mohib Ullah capitalised on a defensive mix-up, intercepting the ball and scoring with a low effort past Patrik Le Giang.

The turnaround began in the 50th minute when Nguyen Hai Long converted a through pass in the penalty area. Nguyen Dinh Bac then set up Nguyen Hoang Duc with a cutback for Vietnam’s second goal in the 57th minute.

Dinh Bac extended the lead in the 80th minute, finishing after a long delivery from Vietnam’s defence. Pakistan pulled a goal back in the 88th minute through Ali Akbar Khan, whose shot from distance struck a defender before beating Le Giang.

Williams Minh Hoang completed the scoring in the 91st minute from a pass supplied by Dinh Bac, leaving Vietnam with a 4-2 win.
