Malaysia's Whitney Isabelle Wilson overcame an opening-game loss to defeat Hong Kong's Elaine Chung 8-11, 11-5, 11-3, 5-11, 11-8 and claim the girls' Under-19 crown at the Milo All Star Malaysian Junior Open Squash Championships in Kuala Lumpur.

The 18-year-old top seed reached the National Squash Courts on Jalan Duta after completing exams at Universiti Malaya that morning. Whitney said she had feared missing the match, but finals for younger age groups were still under way, delaying her start.

Whitney said the reading, writing and listening exams had taken several hours. She attributed her difficulties during the final to hunger and tension following the exams, but said she kept fighting despite her disappointment at losing the opening game.

Her results earlier in the year included finishing runner-up in the Under-19 competition at the Asian Junior Championships in Panzhihua, China, in May. She also helped Malaysia earn team silver at July's World Junior Championships in Canada.

Whitney said the British Junior Open in Birmingham, scheduled for Jan 2-6, would be her final junior tournament. She then intends to concentrate on PSA events to improve her world rankings.

In the boys' Under-19 final, Malaysia's Aqil Mirza Naim Khairil Fariz recovered from two games behind to beat compatriot Altamis Aqhar Sallam Sufian 7-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4.
