Yamashita approaches Maybank title defence with little pressure
The world No. 4 could become the tournament's first successful defending champion after a season featuring multiple wins.

Miyu Yamashita says she feels little pressure ahead of her bid to retain the Maybank Championship crown in Kuala Lumpur, a feat no player has achieved. The 25-year-old returns after a season of multiple victories, including a nine-stroke success at the CPKC Women's Open.
At a press conference at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, Yamashita spoke through an interpreter about her anticipation of returning as champion and her wish to perform well for spectators. She praised the welcome from Malaysian fans and said their support would help during the heat and humidity of the 72-hole contest at Bukit Kiara.
Following nine-hole practice sessions, Yamashita said she was pleased with her swing and feel. She identified reliable shot-making as central to her strategy, with particular emphasis on approach shots that find the greens and give her scoring chances.
Her West Course triumph in 2025 followed a Sunday comeback from eight shots behind. She carded 65, seven under par without a bogey, to join Hannah Green and Choi Hye-Jin in a playoff. After rain and lightning repeatedly interrupted play, Yamashita claimed the Tiger Trophy by making birdie at the first playoff hole.
