Yape wins virtual taekwondo gold, taking Philippines' Asian Games tally to four

Jeus Gabriel Derick Yape beat Vietnam's Chau Ngoc Tuyet Sang in the final, adding gold to his earlier poomsae bronze.

The Philippines secured its fourth gold at the 2026 Asian Games through Jeus Gabriel Derick Yape, who won the mixed individual virtual taekwondo final against Vietnam's Chau Ngoc Tuyet Sang, GMA News reported.

Yape recorded scores of 500-0 and 620-0 in the title contest. The victory gave him a second medal at the Games, following a bronze in the men's individual poomsae event.

His route to the final included a quarterfinal victory over Japan's Hayate Suzuki and a semifinal win against Kazakhstan's Rita Bakisheva.

With Yape's gold, the Philippine medal count reached four golds, five silvers and 14 bronzes. Carlos Yulo contributed two of those gold medals, while EJ Obiena won one.
