Malaysia’s 2027 SEA Games to feature 43 sports as padel makes debut
Organisers confirmed 473 gold medal events, with competitions scheduled for Sept 18–29 across Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang and Johor.

Malaysia will stage 473 gold medal events in 43 sports at the 34th Southeast Asian Games in 2027, following confirmation of the programme by the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF). Padel will appear at the Games for the first time.
The programme was announced after the federation’s executive committee met in Kuala Lumpur. Committee chairman Dr Nur Azmi Ahmad, who is also vice-president of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, said successful appeals had brought five sports into the line-up: padel, dancesport, teqball, ice hockey and kabaddi.
Malaysia SEA Games Organising Committee CEO Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub confirmed that the Games would run from Sept 18 to 29, 2027. Competitions will be spread across Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang and Johor.
He said six countries had already confirmed their participation in padel, which will be staged in Kuala Lumpur. Sarawak will host dancesport.
Nur Azmi said finalising the programme would give national Olympic committees greater clarity as they stepped up preparations. The SEAGF also formally applied to become a signatory to the World Anti-Doping Code, aiming to strengthen anti-doping systems in Southeast Asian sport.
