Indonesia’s Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana reported record attendance for the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP, with visitor numbers exceeding 150,000. She put the estimated economic multiplier impact of the West Nusa Tenggara race at Rp5 trillion.

Widiyanti said the influx supported accommodation, transport and food businesses, as well as micro, small and medium enterprises. Hotels in the Mandalika area recorded occupancy of 100 per cent, while the figure for Central Lombok and Mataram City was 90 per cent. She also reported increased air passenger traffic and turnover among smaller businesses.

For the preceding edition, a study from the National Development Planning Agency put the contribution to Indonesia’s economy in a range of Rp2.7 trillion to Rp4.7 trillion.

The minister described the race as part of the country’s strategic agenda for sports tourism. She said continued tourism visits and longer-term activity were needed to sustain economic gains after the racing ended.

Widiyanti said her ministry was collaborating with the Youth and Sports Ministry on developing sports tourism, raising standards for international events and extending the benefits to tourism businesses and communities.
