Emil Audero stopped Nattapong Sayriya’s decisive spot-kick as Indonesia defeated Thailand in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 final at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on 5 October. The hosts won the penalty shootout 4-2 after the match finished 2-2.

Writing on Instagram after the victory, the Rayo Vallecano goalkeeper described the achievement as historic. He thanked supporters who had backed Indonesia throughout the tournament, along with the people working behind the scenes to help the team.

Indonesia controlled play from the start but did not take the lead until the 84th minute, when Dean James scored from a free-kick. Thailand, reduced to 10 players following Nicholas Mickelson’s red card, equalised in the 87th minute.

Peeradol Chamrasamee then put Thailand 2-1 ahead in the 111th minute despite their numerical disadvantage. Elkan Baggott brought Indonesia level again in the 116th minute, sending the final to penalties.

Kevin Diks, James, Baggott and Shayne Pattynama all converted their shootout attempts for Indonesia. Manuel Bihr and Waris Choolthong scored for Thailand, but Sarach Yooyen hit the post before Audero saved Sayriya’s effort. Indonesia became champions of the tournament’s inaugural edition.
