Indonesia claimed the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 title after overcoming Thailand in a penalty shootout, CNN Indonesia reported. All four Indonesian takers converted their attempts, while Thailand’s Sarach Yooyen struck the post and Nattapong Sayriya had his shot saved by Emil Audero.

The final swung between the teams late in regulation time and during extra time. Dean James put Indonesia ahead in the 84th minute, but Iklas Sanron equalised in the 87th. Peeradon Chamratsamee then gave Thailand the lead in the 111th minute with a low shot that beat Audero.

Elkan Baggott brought Indonesia level again from a Rizky Ridho pass, sending the match to penalties. Kevin Diks, James, Baggott and Shayne Pattynama scored for Indonesia before Audero’s save from Nattapong sealed the championship.

Indonesia’s group campaign began with a 2-0 victory over Singapore, with goals from Ragnar Oratmangoen and Ole Romeny. A 0-0 draw against Malaysia followed despite Thom Haye’s dismissal in the 36th minute, which left Indonesia defending for much of the match.

A 9-2 win over Bangladesh secured first place in the group. Indonesia scored twice in the final two minutes of second-half injury time and finished ahead of Malaysia on goals scored, 11 to 9, after both teams ended with a goal difference of +9.
