Whatever Justin “Pinoy” Brownlee decides to do next, suportahan taka. Retire? Go ahead. Take a sabbatical? You’ve earned it. Play basketball on Mars? Me thinks Elon Musk should have a jersey waiting. At this point, JB has earned the right to do whatever he wants because our kababayan has already given Barangay Ginebra, Gilas Pilipinas, and Philippine basketball just about everything anyone could reasonably ask of one man. Brownlee arrived in 2016 and helped end Ginebra’s agonizing eight-year championship drought. He made the Gin Kings relevant again. He turned himself into a PBA legend, rewrote the conversation over who deserves to be called the PBA’s import GOAT, and then—because apparently all that wasn’t enough—helped the Philippines win its first Asian Games basketball gold medal in 61 years. What else do we want from the guy? Father Time, after all, remains undefeated. My NBA GOAT, Kareen Abdul Jabbar, retired. Michael Jordan eventually walked away. Kobe Bryant did. LeBron James will.
